About this edition

This edition of Confessions of an Immigrant’s Daughter was created from a print copy held by the the Killam Memorial Library at Dalhousie University. Dalhousie holds the original 1939 Faber and Faber edition that won the 1939 Governor General’s Award for fiction, as well as a 1981 printing by University of Toronto Press.

Salverson’s autobiography received critical praise at the time it was published and has continued to resonate with readers ever since. There were three print editions of this work available from commercial publishers and most recently a digital paywall edition published by McGill-Queens University Press in 2023. There are currently no other public domain editions available online. Fadedpage.com has public domain versions of several other works by Laura Goodman Salverson available for readers who would like to explore Salverson’s other books, including The Dark Weaver which won the 1937 Governor General’s Award for non-fiction.
