About the Book
Canadian Short Stories was originally published in 1928 by the Macmillan Company of Canada Ltd. It was edited by Raymond Knister (1899 – 1932), who also provides an introduction to the anthology. The book is in the public domain in Canada with the exception of four short stories whose authors were not in the public domain as of December 31, 2022 when the public domain in Canada was extended for an additional 20 years. The excluded stories are:
- Last spring they came over, by Morley Callaghan
- The weather breeder by Merrill Denison
- The root house, by Leslie McFarlane
- Susie and Perse, by Thomas Murtha
Our public domain edition is created from the original 1928 edition in the Dalhousie Library collection. While this book is in the public domain in Canada (with the exception of the four omitted stories), it might be under copyright in other countries.
